| Hip fracture is a common cause for hospitalization in the elderly, and usually happens to individuals with several diseases or disabilities. Many people die in the first six months after hip fracture, and most of these deaths do not occur in the hospital. Older men admitted from nursing homes are the most likely to die of hip fracture in the hospital. The evidence for substantial variance in mortality rates due to provider performance is limited, and this indicator should be interpreted with caution. |
